Mr Daniel Muthike Kivilu

Scholarship amount: Ksh 680,000

Course: Bachelor of Law

I am a 3rd born in family of four. I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth; poverty was a major challenge for my family. At age of 20 years I became orphan making it impossible to pursue my education at Mount Kenya University where I had been offered a place to pursue Law degree due to lack of school fees. My father passed on in 2010 while my beloved mother followed 1 year later. I was faced with new challenge of taking care of my young brother something that made life more miserable. On July 2013 I applied for Mount Kenya University scholarship and was invited for an interview 2 weeks later which I was successful. I was offered full scholarship inclusive of meals and accommodation. This paved a way to complete my education without fees hitches. I graduated on 9th Dec 2016 with second class, upper division and I got employed with Riley Service Limited, one month after the graduation thanks to the degree certificate I got from the university regarded to be giving quality education by the many employers. “Apart from the degree certificate, the university provided me with an opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skill that has seen me venture into the poultry production and modern farming”. Currently I have 500 “Kienyeji” chickens and two hectares tomatoes. I intent to use the proceeds from the farming to give back to society by sponsoring forthcoming 2018 KCSE and KCPE top candidates in my village .Currently, I head the ‘Ondoa Umasikini campaign’ an initiative that assists Kenyan in my area to grow out of the poverty and ignorance. I thank MKU for offering me the scholarship that has substantially changed my life. “Thank you and God MKU Founder and Chairman Prof. Simon Gicharu and MKU fraternity”.
