Scholarships
MKUF offers a diverse range of higher education scholarships for students who demonstrate need and or unparalleled excellence in various fields. These include Academic, Sports, Leadership, Environmental and co-curricular areas
Other Scholarships are awarded on the basis of National and International prominence, Innovation, Girl Child/Marginalised cadres, Physically challenged, and Stratified Academic disciplines e.g Journalism, Law, Real Estate, Medicine.
Dollar-for-Dollar
To create value for donors who support MKU's mandates of teaching and research, we commit to match every dollar donated towards students’ scholarships with an equal amount. This particular programme is for students who undertake their studies at Mount Kenya University and Equip Africa Institute. Donors will receive all scholarship application and vetting reports, audited reports and study updates.
Climate Action
We envision all universities in Africa being carbon neutral by year 2030. We have established a 25-hectare arboretum cum botanical garden along Thika Garissa Road in the precincts of the university graduation pavilion. This complements the carbon-offset efforts by various MKU Foundation staff and students. We actively support Kenya’s President William Ruto’s National Tree Planting Initiative that envisions the planting of 15 billion trees by year 2032.
Graduate Enterprise Academy
In Kenya, youth unemployment is 38%. We are committed to empowering graduates to venture into entrepreneurship and job creation. This is facilitated by Graduate Enterprise Academy that provides free entrepreneurial training and seed capital to MKU graduates. It also has a business incubation centre that nurtures skillset, talents, and link graduates with venture capitalists and financiers. We are also committed to commercialization of research outcomes.
Education for People with Disabilities
We are committed to ensuring access to quality higher education to all persons, including those with Special Needs and Disabilities. We have facilitated the installation of facilities that enable learning for the physically challenged. We assist learners with special needs and disabilities, categorized as Hearing impairment, Visual impairment, Deaf-blindness, Physical impairment and Cerebral palsy among others.
